THE ROLE OF JDV STUDENTS' COUNCIL (JDVSC)
JDVSC is a democratically elected (by students) band of students from each class and representative elected by the women’s forum. The aim and purpose of this body is “to establish and foster a continuous and constructive dialogue between students and staff, and to further a responsible participation of the student body in the academic life of the Vidyapeeth” (statutes, art 26). The council functions on three levels: class, faculty and institution, thereby ensuring effective participation of the students in all matters that affect their life in JDV. The council executes its activities under four wings such as Class Wing, Cultural Wing, Literary Wing and Social Wing. The activities of students’ council will be executed in consultation with Moderator.
The functions of these wings follow as below:
Class Wing
One from each class is elected as the class coordinators. They ensure their assistance in terms of class room arrangements, looking after the audio visual arrangements as and when necessary. Class coordinators establish a liaison between the office and students. They furnish the necessary information pertaining to all academic activities including the exam time table and so on.
Cultural Wing:
It is one of the important wings in the JDVSC. It looks after cultural and sports activities as and when necessary. It plays a vital role in organizing JDV day creatively and thematically. This wing organizes inter class and inter collegiate tournaments to build a good relationship with others. It creates multiple opportunities to exhibit students’ talents in the form of sportive and creative competitions.
Literary Wing
This wing provides a number of opportunities to students by conducting various competitions associated with intellectual creativity and literary skills. It plays a major role in bringing out the JDV times as well as Vidyankur Journal.
Social Wing
A very essential wing which awakens our senses to the number of realities of the world by organizing insightful lectures, through screening movies, by conducting film festival, by conducting outreach programs and blood donation camps etc.
Above all the JDVSC is a committed band of young students who in their ever readiness render their generous service throughout the academic year as and when required. They do choose a relevant theme for the year in the beginning of the year which runs through all the programs that they execute. The president and secretary become members in the academic senate of the institution. In this way JDVSC acts as a creative and active body in the institution building a good relationship between the staff and students.
